These Are Meghan Markle's Top Christmas Tips For Celebrating the Holiday Season

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will be spending Christmas with Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland, this year instead of the royal family. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are notoriously private, so we most likely will not know what goes on during their holiday celebrations.

However, back when Markle was still an actress, she did share with fans some information on what she often did during the holidays. There’s a good chance that she will try to do some of these things this Christmas.

So, if you are looking for ideas on how to celebrate the holidays as Duchess Meghan would then read on below to learn about some of her top tips.

Meghan Markle puts a twist on Christmas decorations

In a 2015 interview with Grazia, Markle shared that she decorates her home on Christmas as many people would. However, tries to decorate in ways that are a bit different from the usual traditions.

For example, she suggested taking garland or magnolia branches and use them to adorn various items around the house that usually do not get decorated. Markle said: “Traditionally garland or magnolia branches are used to adorn a stairwell banister or mantle. Take this concept and trim the outline of a mirror or beautiful piece of artwork that is centrally located in your entry hallway or living room.”

For dinner parties, Markle also revealed that she loves to buy silver trays, platters, and nut bowls from flea markets and Etsy. They would give her gatherings a “formal” feel without her having to spend a lot of money.

When it comes to decorating tabletops for a holiday meal, Markle switches out flower vases with mint julep cups and Moscow mule mugs. Additionally, she likes using all white tablecloths and napkins to give the meal an elegant vibe.

Meghan Markle tries to get her friends and family involved

Markle also shared that friends and family can get involved in preparations for a holiday dinner. Instead of one person cooking for everybody, she suggested having a potluck and arranging the food like a buffet.

“Have each of your friends bring a dish or cook together in the kitchen,” Markle said. “If you do not have a proper set-up, use your dining room table or kitchen counter as a buffet.”

Ladies who launch! Each of the women shared amazing stories of how they started in business, the journey they’ve been on – successes and struggles – but also their ambitions for the future. Female empowerment and championing women’s rights is a key focus for The Duchess. By taking small actions we can make a big difference. Thank you to the inspiring women The Duchess met today, who are setting this example every day through their dedication and determination. #RoyalVisitSouthAfrica Photo ©️ PA images / Sussex Royal

A post shared by The Duke and Duchess of Sussex (@sussexroyal) on

Like her husband, Prince Harry, Markle has been trying her hardest to help save the environment for a long time now. In fact, she once had a post on her now-defunct blog, The Tig, about how to celebrate the holidays in a sustainable way.

In the blog post, she shared tips on how to not waste food and save money. First off, Markle shared with readers that shopping for holiday meals at the farmers market or signing up for a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program can be a great way to eat organic, healthy food.

She also asked readers to think about reducing carbon emission by planning out one’s grocery list beforehand and avoiding multiple trips to the grocery store.

Markle wrote: “Two huge problems with not planning your meals is that you end up throwing away food, and you spend too much time making grocery trips. Huddle and save. Streamline your meals (even if they aren’t exact) and make as few trips as possible. You’re saving money, time, and the planet.”

Finally, for those who plan on eating out, Markle encouraged fans to support local businesses instead of going for popular chain restaurants.

“Always buy local when you can so your money goes back into the community,” Markle said. “Corporate CEOs likely aren’t spending their paychecks in your hometown.”

'Counting On': Are Michelle Duggar and Jim Bob Duggar Really as Happy as They Claim?

JimBob and Michelle Duggar claim to have a fairytale marriage. The couple, whomet while in high school, were married before Michelle turned 18 years old.Since their wedding day in 1984, the couple has built a media empire, welcomed19 children, and are rapidly adding grandchildren to their tribe. While thecouple insists that they have a happy, healthy partnership, there is someevidence to the contrary. So, are Jim Bob and Michelle as happilymarried as they claim?

A body language expert is concerned by Michelle’s subservience

RadarOnline sat down with a body language expert in 2018 to analyzethe relationship between Jim Bob and Michelle. The expert pointed out a few criticalproblems with the way Michelle and Jim Bob interact. First, she notes that Michelle’sbody language indicates that she is entirely subservient to Jim Bob and regularlylooks to him for approval. She also notes that the fake voice suggests arresteddevelopment. For Jim Bob’s part, the expert notes he often talks over Michelleand doesn’t appear to respect her, based on his behavior and body language.

The expert’s analysis seems spot-on, based on what fansknow of the couple. Jim Bob has always been a bit of a camera hog, and Michelleis incredibly eager to please. Back in 2012, she received a makeover, and hermain concern was whether or not Jim Bob would like it. She noted that she wantsto keep herhair in a fashion that is pleasing to Jim Bob. The statement concerned somefans.

Michelle’s advice to make oneself “joyfully available” is problematic

Michelle shocked fans when she once wrote that a womanshould make herself “joyfullyavailable” to her husband. In short, she believes that the secret to ahealthy, happy marriage is being available for intimacy whenever the husbandwants it, regardless of how the wife might be feeling.

Michelle and Jim Bob’s daughter, Jill Duggar, offeredsimilar advice in a blog post that shocked fans. Jill suggested that marriedcouples should prioritizeintimacy between four and five times per week. The Duggar kids are notallowed to be alone with a member of the opposite sex before getting married,so hearing Michelle and Jill speak so openly about it shocked many followers.

There is a problem with the advice both Michelle and Jilldull out, though. Neither is considering the needs of individual people. Bothwomen make the assumption that all men are sex-crazedand that all women must simply go along with it. The thought pattern can createserious resentment and feelings of inequality, which can’t possibly lead to ahappy marriage in the long run.

The pair will never divorce, though

While JimBob and Michelle may not be as happily married as they claim, the odds ofthem ever parting ways are slim. The religious sect that the family belongs toshuns couples who choose to divorce, for any reason. Within the IBLP,divorce is not considered acceptable under any circumstances, but RecoveringGrace alleges a member of the sect may use separation as a way to stepaway.

Even if Michelle wanted to step away from her marriage, would it be feasible for her? Based on what DerickDillard has said, Jim Bob holds the purse strings in the family.  With no discernible skills outside the home,Michelle would have a nearly impossible time trying to make it on her own.Frankly, it would appear the mother of 19 doesn’t even think that’s an option,or at the very least, she seems happy enough to stick it out.

Convicted jihadists are to be banned from Christmas markets

Convicted jihadists are to be banned from Christmas markets and other crowded areas in terror crackdown in the wake of London Bridge attack

  • Justice Secretary Robert Buckland imposing the tough restrictions on extremists
  • It will see conditions tightened up for those released on licence from prison
  • Ministers fear a repeat of the terrorist attacks on Christmas markets in Europe

The move comes after Usman Khan (pictured) stabbed two people to death and injured three others near London Bridge after being freed early from jail

Convicted and suspected jihadists will be banned from going to Christmas markets and other crowded areas in a terror crackdown.

Justice Secretary Robert Buckland is imposing the tough restrictions on Islamist extremists in the wake of the London Bridge attack two weeks ago.

It will see conditions tightened up for those released on licence from prison after serving a sentence for terrorism or those placed on anti-terror orders because of insufficient evidence to prosecute them.

Jihadists will be banned from travelling to places where there are large gatherings, such as festive markets, sports stadiums and shopping centres.

Ministers fear a repeat of the terrorist attacks on Christmas markets in Europe over the past few years. In Berlin in 2016 a stolen lorry was used to ram crowds, killing 12, while last year five died in Strasbourg when a jihadist went on a shooting and knifing spree.

Mr Buckland has acted after Usman Khan, an extremist convicted of a plot to blow up the Stock Exchange, stabbed two people to death and injured three others near London Bridge after being freed early from jail.

The move is part of a major review of all 69 terrorists currently released on licence. Two are already back in jail for breaches of their conditions.

Extra restrictions on travel have been imposed following discussions with counter-terror police, probation chiefs and the security services.

These include a ban on travel to cities which they had plotted to attack. If they breach the ‘exclusion zones’, they will be thrown back in jail.

Mr Buckland told the Mail: ‘Christmas is coming so we are absolutely right to do this. Given what has happened, there will be much more comprehensive restrictions for these people.

‘There will be tougher travel restrictions, stopping them going to crowded places such as Christmas markets. It’s important that we give the highest degree of confidence to the British people that they are protected from the people who want to inflict terror.

‘We can’t let our way of life be undermined.’

Khan’s deadly rampage at a prisoner rehabilitation conference led to an outcry after it emerged he had been released half way through a 16-year sentence under guidelines brought in by Labour more than a decade ago.

Boris Johnson has pledged that, if the Conservatives win a majority on Thursday, terrorists will serve all their sentence and no longer be eligible for early release.

Legislation aimed at tightening up the supervision of terrorists released into the community is also being looked at.

It stands in stark contrast to Jeremy Corbyn’s stance. In the days after Khan’s attack, the Labour leader said jailed terrorists should ‘not necessarily’ have to serve their full terms – fuelling accusations he is soft on terror.

Mr Buckland’s intervention came as the National Police Chiefs Council announced a free counter-terrorism training course is being offered online to all in the run-up to Christmas.

It is designed to teach the public how to spot suspicious behaviour and items and know what to do in the event of a major incident.

Why Lady Gaga Fans Are Trying to Cancel Billie Eilish

Hint: It has something to do with Eilish being vegan and Gaga’s iconic meat dress.

Cancel culture knows no bounds.

After a video of Billie Eilish, a known vegan, vaguely disapproving of Lady Gaga’s iconic meat dress went viral, the latter’s fans — called Little Monsters — took to Twitter to cancel the 17-year-old singer, using the hashtag #BillieEilishIsOverParty.

During the interview in question, Billie and brother Finneas were talking to Variety about their incredibly successful year, creating the chart-topper "Bad Guy" and Billie’s six Grammy nominations, which she humbly said was "an honor."

"I grew up watching the Grammys. We all did. We used to judge all the girls’ dresses. That’s all I did. I barely paid attention to the music…" she explained, as her brother interjected to wonder, "Was the meat dress a Grammys event?"

"Eee…yikes," Billie let out (around 3:15 in the video below).

To clarify, Gaga actually wore the dress to the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, explaining that the garment "has many interpretations. For me this evening, if we don’t stand up for what we believe in and if we don’t fight for our rights, pretty soon, we’re going to have as much rights as the meat on our own bones."

"And," she added, "I am not a piece of meat."

Gaga explained she was also using the dress as a nod to a speech she had made, titled The Prime Rib of America, in which she urged the U.S. military to abandon its "don’t ask, don’t tell" policy, which discriminated against LGBTQ people.

However, the hashtag soon became a means for Billie’s fans to defend her.

"Dude I’ve been a Gaga fan since the beginning. & even I’m not mad at Billie Eilish," one person tweeted. "Y’all are just sad for trying to cancel a 17 year old VEGAN for her own opinions/beliefs. Like you think Gaga was bothered by all the opinions back then, let alone now?"

Another added, "Gaga fans really out here saying vile shit about Billie cuz she said Gaga’s meat dress was weird. Breaking news: IT WAS F–KING WEIRD and we spent a solid year roasting her for it," while a third wrote, "yall wildin over a VEGAN not liking a MEAT dress. did you know vegans dont eat animals?"

Jessica Simpson’s kids are growing up fast

It’s been over a decade since Jessica Simpson infamously quizzed her then-hubby Nick Lachey on Newlyweds on a question as old as time: was she eating chicken, or was she eating fish? Although she’s still trolling others who have made the same mistake, the former reality TV queen has certainly been busy – even if you don’t hear from her much anymore.

Since splitting with 98 Degrees crooner Nick Lachey in 2005 and subsequently leaving her reality TV show, the former songstress has become quite a successful businesswoman in her own right. Known by some as the “Retail Empress,” Simpson set her sights on her now-sprawling fashion empire of shoes, clothing, luggage, and accessories. By 2014, Forbes reported that A-lister’s “brand rakes in about $1 billion a year at retail.”

Besides running her vast fashion kingdom, Simpson is also a proud mother with hubby and former NFL tight end, Eric Johnson. Since we all sometimes get lost in that early-noughties vault of thinking that our fave stars from back-in-the-day haven’t grown up with us, here’s a jarring reminder that yes, Jessica Simpson has gotten older, and yes, her kids are growing up fast, too.

Jessica Simpson is a mom-of-three

Sharing three kids with her husband, Eric Johnson, Jessica Simpson is the mom to daughter Maxwell Drew Johnson, son Ace Knute Johnson, and her newest addition, daughter Birdie Mae Johnson. Don’t be fooled into thinking her two eldest are still babies, however, since, at the time of this writing, Maxwell is already seven and Ace is six.

Simpson spoke to People in July 2019 about the trials and tribulations of raising three kids under the age of seven. “Three kids is no joke …They are all in such different phases now.” She went on to explain that “Maxi” is a “social butterfly with a passion for animals,” and Ace is “obsessed with sports.”

Another difficulty that’s come from so many pregnancies? The unavoidable weight gain. Simpson has very publicly battled her body shamers throughout each pregnancy and, according to RadarOnline, after the starlet’s most recent one, she’s dropped a whopping 100 pounds.

So, what’s next on the horizon for the celeb? “Jessica Simpson looks and feels better than ever. She’s so happy right now in her life with her family and herself and it really shows,” a source told HollywoodLife. “She’s even starting to think about doing some new music soon.” We’re just as excited for the starlet to flourish even more, too, all while raising her budding family.

Former ‘AGT’ Judges Are Weighing In On Gabrielle Union’s Controversial Exit

Last month, Gabrielle Union was reportedly let go as a judge on America’s Got Talent following her complaints about a few "offensive" incidents on set that allegedly went unaddressed by production. Now, former AGT judges are addressing the Union controversy including Howard Stern and Sharon Osbourne. Both of whom are speaking out about the reports of a toxic workplace culture on the AGT set.

During his SiriusXM show on Monday, Dec. 2, Stern blamed judge and producer Simon Cowell for Union’s AGT departure, per The Hollywood Reporter. Stern claimed that Cowell is overly loyal to the men on the judges’ panel. "He sets it up that the men stay no matter how ugly [the men] are, no matter how old they are, no matter how fat they are, no matter how talentless they are," said Stern, who, after four seasons on the panel, left the show in 2015. "He replaces the hot chicks with hotter chicks and younger chicks." Along with Union, it was announced that fellow judge Julianne Hough is also leaving the show after Season 14. Previously, Mel B and Heidi Klum were at the judge’s table in seasons 8 through 13.

"Howie’s [Mandel] doing a fine, serviceable job — why don’t they change him?" Stern said about the longest serving judge, who has been there since 2010. "And why don’t they change Simon?… This is the ultimate example of a boys’ club." (Bustle has reached out to Cowell for comment, but did not receive an immediate response.)

On Tuesday, Dec. 3, Osbourne also reacted to the news of Union leaving AGT on her talk show The Talk. While she said that she was never mistreated by those who worked on the set of AGT, she did have problems with the higher-ups. "It’s hard, because everybody’s experience on a show is different, and I was at that show for six years," she said, adding that she quit "because of NBC, not because of the show."

Osbourne added that she could not speak to Union’s specific complaints regarding the show’s toxic workplace, which according to a Nov. 26 Variety report included "urging producers” to report a racist joke reportedly made by guest judge Jay Leno to human resources. Variety also claimed that Union reportedly received criticism over her hairstyles, which were deemed “too black."

"Obviously, there wasn’t anybody of color on the panel when I was there, so I honestly can’t say," Osbourne said of the reported offensive behavior. "But when I was there it was, you know, a great show to work on. The crew and everybody was amazing to me, everybody, except the network."

Outside of the AGT community, Union has received support online from fellow celebs, including Grey’s Anatomy‘s Ellen Pompeo, who called for "unity and solidarity" among all women. And though Union hasn’t released an official statement on AGT, she did tweet a thank you to fans for their support. "So many tears, so much gratitude," she wrote on Wednesday. "THANK YOU! Just when you feel lost, adrift, alone … you got me up off the ground. Humbled and thankful, forever."

Why rest days are so important for runners (and when you should take them)

When you’re training with a specific running target in mind, rest can feel like you’re cheating – but it’s the exact opposite.

Rest days should be an intrinsic part of any runner’s training plan. Not only will rest help your body to recover and your muscles to heal, it will also help you re-energise, re-motivate and prevent fitness burnout.

Rest is a highly underestimated aspect of running, but it is essential for promoting performance, preventing injury and aiding recovery. The tricky thing can be knowing how many rest days to take and when to take them.

When should you take a rest day?

Annoyingly, there is no single answer to this. It very much depends on your individual training programme; how hard you’re pushing your body and how much rest your body needs.

But, as a rule of thumb – less experienced runners will probably want to take two rest days every week. It’s also wise to not run for more than four consecutive days in a row – particularly if you are injury prone.

Mondays can be a good choice for taking a rest, particularly if you tend to complete longer, more demanding runs at the weekend.

More experienced runners might choose to take a rest day every seven – 10 days. And some runners might get by with gentler, recovery runs, and rarely taking a day off.

Any more than two rest days per week isn’t really advisable unless you are brand new to running, or over 50 years old.

If you take too many rest days, you can end up packing too many miles into too few runs – which can increase your risk of injury. Focus on frequency and consistency instead.

Why are rest days important?

Whether you’re strictly a recreational runner, or an elite performance athlete, all levels of runners can benefit from a well-planned rest program and at least one-day off from the training schedule each week.

But what benefits can rest actually offer, other than the chance to catch up with doing absolutely nothing on your sofa?

We asked the experts at TRR Nutrition for their advice on the benefits of taking a day off:

Encourages muscles to recover and strengthen

Running (as with any form of exercise) can create microscopic tears in muscle fibres. To counteract this, the body rebuilds the muscles stronger.

However, this only happens in rest periods and it’s therefore important to ensure your body has enough rest to allow muscles to repair and strengthen.

Prevents injury

It might not be rocket science, but it is important to remember that rest is integral to injury prevention. Not resting adequately can lead to minor injuries becoming major ones.

Overdoing it can lead to muscles and joints suffering from overuse, resulting in injury.

Improves performance

Adequate rest allows the body to conserve and restore energy levels. Enhanced energy levels contribute to a greater quality in each training session, helping to aid performance levels.

Maintains focus

Although the mental health benefits of running are well documented and accepted, taking a planned day or two out can assist mental clarity.

The break from training helps your brain to relax and encourages focus and energy.

Aids a good night’s sleep

When you run, your body doesn’t know why you are running. This can elevate levels of the stress hormone cortisol, making you feel irritable and restless.

Ensuring that you rest will help to stabilise both heart rate and alertness and help you to sleep soundly.

Allows the immune system to work effectively

When our bodies experience intense activity and training, our immune systems are working on overdrive to repair muscles and joints.

Without proper periods of rest, the immune system is unable to repair properly, and this can result in both inflammation and injury.

How to make the most out of your rest days

Give your nutrition some thought, ensure meals and snacks are planned and refuel your body with nourishing meals that will allow your body to perform efficiently.

Chill Out

Naturally active individuals can find the concept of inactivity terrifying! Take the opportunity to let the body relax and recuperate effectively by undertaking some relaxing activities.

Yoga can be a good option for those who still want to move as it can help refine useful relaxation techniques.

Try a supplement

Nothing replaces a good well-balanced diet, but sometimes the body needs a little help.
